Pulping 2: “REALITY”
Call for Submissions!
Submissions close February 28, 2025
Pulping Volume 2 is coming!
Pulping is an *AWARD WINNING* anthology project conceived by Jenn Woodall, Jon Iñaki, Jonathan Rotsztain, Mitch Lohmeier and Paterson Hodgson. Volume 1 appeared at comics shows across North America including at SPX2024 in Maryland, where it won two Ignatz awards: Outstanding Story and Outstanding Anthology.
Volume 1 asked Toronto cartoonists to produce comics on the theme of comics. For our second volume, artists from anywhere in Ontario will be considered and we’re opening the lens to the macro: reality itself!!!
Pulping 2 will debut at TCAF, June 6-8, 2025.
For Pulping 2 we have selected a number of artists to contribute and are now opening up submissions to the public. This is YOUR chance to be part of a regional effort to showcase the best work coming out of Ontario right now.
Why Reality?: The reality modern humans face today can feel unfathomable, wonder and horror alike. Making comics is an act of reality bending. Comics can become a place of reality making, challenging, warping, wrapping, etc. We love when you read a comic and go “that’s real as fuck…” even as you question what’s really real or what reality really is. We encourage our fellow cartoonists to get real, get unreal, from dark to whimsical and back again.
Details and how to submit:
Eligibility: We are seeking comics of 1-4 pages from artists living in Ontario.
Comics can be new, to-be-finished work or previously created/published work.
Contributors from Volume 1 are welcome to pitch, however, we will be prioritizing new artists who were not previously published in Pulping.
Submit: Email more@pulping.fun, please include the following:
-Introduction letting us know who you are including your name and location
-Social media, portfolio links or attachments showing previous work
-Your Pitch! Tell us what you want to write and draw about
-Page number request (1-4)
Deadlines: Submissions close February 28, applications accepted on rolling basis pending space in book (apply early!) Final art is due April 10th.
Specs: Black and white stories, page size = 7” x 10”, live area = 6” x 9”, full bleed allowed, but please keep in mind space for page numbers at the bottom of each page.
The Money: All artists will be paid. All profits from the first print run will be split evenly amongst artists according to contribution length, after printing and promotion expenses. For example, if someone makes 10 out of 100 pages, they would receive 10% of the profits after expenses.
This means payment for your comic will not be received until after some or all of the print run is sold.
